When it comes to choosing the right roof hatch for your property, it can become a very difficult and time consuming task. Surespan are here to help you make that all important decision on what kind of Roof Hatch will meet your specific needs.
You must first decide what the main purpose of the Roof Hatch will be. The important factors that must be considering before choosing a Roof Hatch are:
- The size of the Roof Hatch
- Is the Roof Hatch required for Personnel or for Equipment?
- What type of building will the hatch be installed on?
The size of the Roof Hatch
When it comes to choosing the size for your roof hatch, first look at the construction of your roof and what available space you have for the hatch.
Next you would need to consider what the hatch will be used for as this can greatly impact the size. For example the hatch may be used to take small or large objects onto the roof, or maybe just for one off access in the case of an emergency. Or perhaps you are going to create a Roof Garden and want a more decorative hatch, for example glazed or sliding.
Our 600 x 600 Roof access hatch is large enough if you only need to access the roof on rare occasions. If you will be using the roof access hatch more often, we recommend a larger size. Our Roof hatches range from sizes 600 x 600 to 1200 x 1200, with bespoke sizes available.
Is the Roof Hatch required for Personnel or for Equipment?
This is a very important factor to consider when choosing your Roof hatch.
If the Hatch is only going to be used for Personnel use, then a small single cover hatch with a fixed ladder, ship or service stair would be suitable. Although, if large tools are going to be transported through the hatch regularly, then you will need to consider a larger size.
Whereas, if the hatch is going to be used for Equipment, then you must select a larger hatch. The measurements of your Equipment will determine the size of the hatch that you require.
What type of building will the hatch be installed on?
If you are looking for a Roof Hatch to access a roof terrace for example, you may want to consider our Glazed hatches which provide light into the room below, and also create a more luxury appearance on your roof.
On the other hand, if your building is a bank or pharmacy you will need a high-security roof hatch which will be protected from unauthorised access.
Another instance would be the presence of corrosive elements, such as inside a chemical plant. Also in buildings where corrosion is a concern, a hatch manufactured of aluminium or stainless steel will provide the highest resistance.
